Working from home could affect communities and local authorities

• THE new world of remote home-working is going to make nonsense of our communities and their councils.
Elected councillors will presumably still have to be residents of their relevant borough. But officers need not even be daily visitors to areas where they are advising on important planning or environmental decisions.
A planning officer could recommend granting permission for a horrendous tower block in the middle of King’s Cross from a bedroom in some rural idyll in Dorset or a bothy in the Highlands of Scotland.
Come to think of it, looking around at some of today’s monstrosities in the borough, you could be forgiven for thinking this is already the case.
