Why does Thames Water ask me how much I earn?

07 February, 2019

• I AM a Camden Council tenant and recently Thames Water have decided that I should pay my water rates separately from April instead of it being paid within my rent, (We bought up data on council tenants, admits Thames Water, January 31).

I am very concerned about the fact that this might be a ruse for Thames to up the bills to council tenants who are not responsible for this change. Also, I have received a letter from Thames asking all sorts of personal financial questions including how much money I have or earn and banking details.

I do not see this has anything to do with the water supply and can only assume that if tenants do divulge this information they will get charged more on the amount of their earnings. I am sure other tenants in Camden have the same concern as myself.
