Winston’s owners appealed for help in the New Journal and hired thermal imaging search teams

A BLACK cat is recovering with bandaged paws three weeks after vanishing on Christmas Day.

Winston, from Lancaster Grove, Belsize Park, was discovered in Netherhall Gardens, Hampstead, on Monday by a kind-hearted couple who took him to a vet, fearing he was already dead.

Owner Richard Poynter, a former marine who had been searching for Winston for three weeks, said the cat was “cross” but “happy”.

Richard thanked the couple, search parties and the New Journal for raising the alarm a fortnight ago.

“He was found by some very kind people who rushed him to the vet and thought he may actually be dead – he was really that bad,” he said.

“Luckily he is ‘chipped’ so the vet scanned him and called us. He is still being cared for at the vet as he is too unwell to come home yet. Hopefully, he will be back in a few days.”

He added: “He is lying on his favourite blanket which we took down to keep him comfortable and surrounded by familiar smells. He is cross to be bandaged but happy to be in the warm and cared for.”
