We’ve been deceived by HS2 again

10 May, 2019

• YOU reported Euston station was to be closed for four days for upgrade works on the bank holiday. We have been deceived by HS2 again.

The work being done is actually a downgrade, to remove platforms that have been at the terminus since 1870. Eventually the space will be used for HS2 for very long-distance passengers only.

After the holiday all the trains that use Euston will have two platforms less. HS2 claim its raison d’être is that Euston is full, so we can expect rush hour trains queuing along the tracks through Camden to get into the station.

It affects us because a quarter of Virgin’s trains are dated diesels with 10 huge underfloor 190-litre engines using last century technology. These 190 litres are going to be pumping particles into Camden as they wait their turn to get into the platforms.

Currently they coast into the station as they have a vacant platform to go to. Thanks HS2 directors, and the many politicians who allow this disaster to happen.
