HAMPSTEAD and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq spoke in the House of Commons today (Monday) to challenge the government over the closure of Belsize fire station, as calls for it to be re-opened in its old use intensified. The base was closed in 2014 due to fire service cuts ordered by Boris Johnson, who was then Mayor of London.
Planning permission was granted to convert the building in Lancaster Grove into luxury flats last week, but the Chalcots estate evacuation has led to renewed focus on the decision to shut it down. The Camden New Journal‘s Thin Red Line investigation into cuts campaigned against cuts to fire stations, staff and appliances.
