Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique
The Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique led by conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner are staging a special of Verdi’s legendary Messa da Requiem at Westminster Cathedral next Tuesday evening (September 18).
This fundraiser for Cancer Research UK is dedicated to the memory of Richard Fitzgerald, the choir and orchestra’s stage manager, who died of lung cancer two years ago.
The choir and orchestra will be at full strength for the performance, more than 140 musicians using traditional and period instruments taking to the stage. They’ll be joined by a stellar line-up of international soloists, American soprano Corinne Winters; Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg; Lithuanian tenor Edgaras Montvidas and Italian bass Gianluca Buratto.
The concert comes 20 years after the Monteverdi Choir’s last London performance of Verdi’s monumental work at St Paul’s Cathedral in July 1998.
