Thieves steal pub’s cash register (but it only takes card payments)

Staff threatened with knives and bike chain

23 July, 2020 — By Bronwen Weatherby

STAFF at a Kentish Town pub were robbed at knife point as they were closing up for the night.

Three men are being sought after the incident at the Southampton Arms in Highgate Road on Sunday.

They were armed with knives and a bike chain and threatened staff. One worker was made to hand over her jewellery.

They escaped with the cash register but will have discovered afterwards that it was empty. Since reopening after coronavirus lockdown the pub has only taken card payments as a hygiene precaution.

Pub owner Jo Sherrin said: “I wasn’t there that night but it’s awful for the staff who were there, really quite traumatic.”

A police spokesman said: “Anyone with information is asked to call officers via 101 quoting reference Cad 8597/12Jul.”
