THE Good Mixer was packed to the rafters once again on Friday night as the legendary Camden Town pub reopened under new management. The Inverness Street pub was threatened with closure for good after its long-serving landlords sold up in January.
New operator Dan Harris, who lives in Camden Town, wants the pub to stay true to its roots. “Of course, we want it to be busy on the weekends, but I also want this place to be a pub where you can come in and sit at the bar and have a chat,” he said. “It’s the kind of pub I’ve always wanted round the corner. We want to get the live music back.”
The pub looks the same despite subtle refurbishments which have improved the toilets. Pool tables which Amy Winehouse once played on have been removed, but Mr Harris is considering bringing one back. Hugo Harding, who used to run the Grand Union and the Camden Tup, is the new pub manager.
