Swiss Cottage Swimming Club rack up 29 medals at county championships

Twelve-year-old Ella McEver won ten medals in astonishing pool performance

CAMDEN Swiss Cottage Swimming Club proved age is no barrier to success, after amassing 29 medals at the Middlesex County Age Group Championships at the weekend – no fewer than 15 of which were gold.

Held at the Barnet Copthall pool, Team Camden’s star of the show was Ella McEver, who claimed an astonishing 10 individual county medals. The talented 12-year-old showed her versatility to win the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, the 200m butterfly, and the 100m and 400m individual medley.

She also claimed silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze medals in the 800m freestyle, the 100m butterfly and the 200m backstroke. Club-mate Alexis Lambropoulos, 13, was also in great form as she powered to gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and the 200m individual medley, and silver in the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

Lyelle Kahaner, 13, swam strongly to strike gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, while Brandon Biss, 12, claimed gold in the 200m individual medley and silver in the 1500m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Leo He, 12, took gold following a gruelling contest in the 200m butterfly, before also touching for a bronze in the sprint 50m butterfly. Gabriele Giovannoni, 13, showed he could go the distance by taking first place in the 1500m freestyle, before claiming a silver in the 400m. Oliver Wright, 12, Ella Podurgiel, 13, Will Chen, 13, and Alex Pama, 13, also all added to the haul by winning bronze medals.
