Socceroonies meet the pros at Southend United

League One club's Anthony Wordsworth used to play for Hawks Athletic

24 March, 2017 — By Steve Barnett

WANNABE footballers from Socceroonies Soccer School were thrilled when they got the chance to meet Southend United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth at the club’s Roots Hall Stadium.

The Football League star is once again set to be reunited with his old gaffer after showing his continued support for an annual charity match. Anthony and Tony Hassan, who coached the 28-year-old when he played for Hawks Athletic as a kid in the Camden and Islington Youth League, hit our sports pages last year when Anthony joined his former Under-9s team-mates for a special match at Market Road in Islington.

Tony, who runs the Socceroonies school, has revealed that he’s organised another game this summer to raise funds and awareness for both Mind and Narcolepsy UK. “Of course, we’re happy to be raising vital funds for both charities,” he said. “But the most important thing is to raise awareness of suicide and narcolepsy, that affect families around the world every day.”

The charity match will take place at Market Road in Islington on June 18.

For more information about the day, or to donate a prize for the auction, call Tony on 07940 168247 or visit www.facebook.com/events/ 62695900786651/ for details.
