Santi Cazorla will not play before Christmas
Spanish midfielder vows to return

SANTI Cazorla will play again for Arsenal, but not before Christmas.
This is the assessment of Gunners manager Arsene Wenger after the Spanish midfielder, who has been badly misses after a series of injury setbacks running back over nearly 12 months, was not listed in the club’s Europa League squad. The 32-year-old was a key cog in Wenger’s first eleven before sustaining an achilles tendonitis injury last October. He has not appeared since Arsenal’s 6-0 victory against Ludogorets in the Champions League.

With questions being raised over how Cazorla can return to top level football after so long out of the game and as he enters the final years of his playing career, Wenger told a press conference this afternoon (Thursday): “The flexibility of his ankle looks good, his mobility is good and now it’s about getting back to full fitness without having any setbacks. It’s very difficult to predict when he will be available again. I think it’s very difficult to set a time. Not before Christmas, that’s why I didn’t involve him in the Europa League, but overall I hope that after Christmas he will be available.”
He added: “He’s had a few surgeries so you are always cautious to set a time or date, but overall, yes it looks positive.”
Cazorla himself was angered by rumours that his lay-off would ultimately end his career, telling a Spanish radio station earlier in the summer: “Do not pay attention to those rumours. Those who want to retire me will get to see me play again. I will return.”
