Sadiq Khan should put pedestrians first and resign
01 November, 2018
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan
• MANY of your readers will have recently received in the post a glossy full-colour A5 leaflet entitled Explore the new Cycle Superhighway 6 (CS6), a route from King’s Cross to Elephant & Castle.
The leaflet includes a map, a message from the Mayor of London (as ever, with his photograph – is their no end to Sadiq Khan’s vanity?) and an exhortation headed: “There’s never been a better time to get on your bike…”
Given that the mayor and Transport for London, and the cycling czar, all know that many Londoners are concerned at the frequent dangerous behaviour of cyclists, it is extraordinary that nowhere on this leaflet is there a reminder to cyclists about the law and the rule of the road.
The leaflet presented an ideal opportunity to mention that cycling is not permitted on any roadside pavement and that all traffic lights should be obeyed by cyclists.
The mayor loves cyclists but seems little interested in pedestrians – it is time Sadiq Khan got on his bike and found another job. London’s next mayor must put pedestrians first.
