AN artist is to have a portrait of an Islington family featured in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ annual exhibition.
Titled Islington Family, the oil painting, left, features three family members in a room overlooking a typical Islington street scene.
“They gave me the choice of which room to paint them in,” said artist Melissa Scott-Miller.
“I liked this room because of its big window. Usually when I find a background interesting it just clicks. I like the typical Islington streets, brick houses and trees.
“When you do a portrait of just one person it is more intimate. You sit with them in silence for so long and they usually open up to you. But with this piece we had a lot of laughs, it was more lively.
“I left the painting in their house the whole time so they saw the progression as we went along and they were so encouraging, I felt very close to them during the process. They really loved the final piece.”
As the exhibition was postponed by the Covid crisis, many of the works are already available to view online at www.therp.co.uk
