COMEDIAN and writer Ricky Gervais joined excited tail-waggers on Sunday as Valentine’s came early for doting dog owners and their precious pooches.
Mr Gervais, who lives in Hampstead, was happy to have his picture taken with his furry friends, including Lurcher Cross, Weller, who was among the dogs looking for a home at the Garden Gate pub.
Among the other guests who turned out for the special Valentine’s walkies, which was hosted for the seventh year by voluntary rescue organisation All Dogs Matter, was Toddles the Jug, a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Pug, and his owner Elaina Owen, 9.

Angela Barnett and her seven-year-old Teacup Yorkie, Ruby, and Simon Harris and his Jack Russell, Teddy, were also among the crowds that flocked to South End Green.
Ira Moss, general manager of All Dogs Matter, praised the turnout on what was a frosty morning, adding that it was a great way to spread awareness of their “Adopt a Dog” drive.
“Despite the weather, people still came in their droves, helping us raise almost a £1,000,” she said.
“Ricky Gervais also made an appearance to show his support for us.
“It was a great day. Two dogs found love and were re-homed.”
