CAMPAIGNERS want the Archway Tavern to open its doors again after being left closed for three years.

The pumps stopped at the pub near the tube station in 2014 after a short as rock venue The Intrepid Fox.

Councillor David Poyser said: “It has been there for a long time. A lot of residents are angry that the pub still remains closed. It would be a lovely new year message if they stirred up some new year spirit and opened the pub again. We fully understand it is a business and local businesses have to make a profit. But it is an iconic site and would benefit local residents.”

The interiors of the pub were used on the cover of The Kinks’ Muswell Hillbillies album in 1973.

No new plans for the building have been made public since it was announced last year that a cocktail venue was planned for the site. In 2007, a bid to turn it into a pole-dancing venue collapsed.

Jan Tucker, chair of the Archway Town Centre Business Group, said: “There is a hotel over the road and new properties cropping up in the area. The customers are there – there is a flow of people all the time. It is an opportunity that is not being picked up on.”
