The Harrison & Harrison organ

ORGAN lovers should make their way to Westminster Abbey next Tuesday evening for the start of the abbey’s Summer Organ Festival taking place every Tuesday from July 17 to August 14.

Organists are playing the abbey’s magnificent Harrison & Harrison organ, installed for the Coronation of King George VI in 1937. It was expanded by the firm in 1982 and again in 1987, resulting in the 94-stop five-manual instrument we know today.

Recitals include:
July 17: Brahms, Reger, Duruflé and Dupré played by Roger Sayer, music director and organist at Temple Church.
July 24: Bach and Messiaen played by James O’Donnell, the abbey’s organist and Master of the Choristers.
July 31: Mozart, Brahms, Saint-Saëns and Vierne played by Vincent Dubois, titular organist at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The Summer Organ Festival, Tuesdays, July 17-August 14. 7pm, £15/cons £10, Season tickets £60/cons £40. Westminster Abbey, 20 Dean’s Yar, SW1. www.westminster-abbey.org/worship-music/music/concerts-and-events/
