POLICE this evening (Saturday) called for witnesses to the road collision in which a 15-year-old cyclist was killed to come forward.

The boy, who was said to be on the eve of his 16th birthday, died at the scene in Malden Road, near Queen’s Crescent. There had been a collision with a motorbike at around 2.40pm. The motorcyclist was not injured. He stopped at the scene.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said they were now “appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision, or the events leading up to the collision, to contact police”, and a statement added: “In particular, officers are keen to trace a white Vauxhall Mokka which stopped at a pedestrian crossing just in front of where the collision occurred. This car was not involved in the collision but the occupants may have seen what happened.”
