Ozil the difference as Arsenal prepare for United visit with 5-0 win

ARSENAL  5 (Lacazette 3, Giroud 68,  87, Sanchez 69, Ozil 72)
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 0
MESUT Ozil was the deciding factor with two assists and a goal, as Arsenal ran out eventual  5-0 winners against a spirited Huddersfield Town side.
The Terriers had nipped at Arsenal’s ankles for over an hour with their dogged, well drilled play, but in the end they were at the receiving end of an mauling.
The end scoreline was a little flattering to Arsene Wenger’s side, and that was largely due to Ozil.
After the match, the Gunners’ boss paid tribute to the German maestro.
“He is fit now, and he doesn’t need to convince us he is a great player, said Wenger.
“He can win the ball back, and has the fight for it. People around here (at Arsenal) love him.”
The West Yorkshire side ripped into Arsenal in the opening moments, but it was Gunners who went a goal up, when Alexandre Lacazette exchanged passes with Aaron Ramsey, before curling the ball confidently past visiting keeper Jonas Lossl, after three minutes.
Lacazette was eventually forced to go off with a groin injury, and will miss Saturday’s epic tussle at the Emirates, against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Neither goalkeeper was troubled for the remainder of the first half, as both sets of supporters shivered a few degrees above freezing.
Huddersfield started the second half, just as they had in the first.
Collin Quaner bulldozed through, and only a stuck out boot from Petr Cech, prevented the hulking German from putting the visitors level on 51 minutes.
Then moments later, Cech pawed the lifting ball onto the bar, after Steve Mounie’s effort was initially blocked by Hector Bellerin.
Huddersfield looked good value for an equaliser, but any such notion was firmly put to bed, thanks to the two quick fire assists from Ozil.
The German, who had shaken off the illness that forced him to miss the win at Burnley, set up Olivier Giroud, for the crucial second goal on 68 minutes.
Giroud, on as a second half sub for Lacazette, nonchalantly swept the ball into the net.
Then Ozil fed Alexis Sanchez, who finished smartly a minute later, to fire the Gunners into a commanding 3-0 lead.
It got even better for Arsenal fans on 72 minutes, when Ozil got his name on the scoresheet, for Arsenal’s fourth.
Giroud bagged his second and Arsenal’s thumping fifth, in the 87th minute, when he whipped the ball home from close range.

It was tough on Huddersfield, but Gunners’ fans will care very little.

“We gave them (Huddersfield) chances, but once we got our second, we played with freedom, explained Wenger.
“Our link up play was fantastic to watch.”
