A sizzling performance of Janáček’s Kát’a Kabanová is being staged at Opera Holland Park which is drawing to a conclusion this week.
Swedish soprano Julia Sporsén is thrilling as the unfortunate heroine driven to take her life. She gets strong support from other soloists and the City of London Sinfonia under conductor Sian Edwards.
Just as the Opera Holland Park 2017 closes, it has unwrapped its 2018 season consisting of four new productions. These are Verdi’s La Traviata followed by Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos and, the season’s rarity, Mascagni’s Isabeau. Tickets go on sale in January.
Last performances this year: Kát’a Kabanová (July 28, 8pm); Alice in Wonderland (July 28/29, 4pm); Leoncavello’s Zazà (July 29, 7.30pm).
