CHILDREN have published a 40-page school magazine with in-depth features ranging from a history of their school to an interview with the Arsenal Youth Coach.
Fleet Primary School’s Year 5 received printed copies of Fleet Beat this week. The young journalists were sorted into teams and given real roles in editorial, production and illustration under the stewardship of teacher Holly Kingham. They visited The Week Junior office and took part in workshops with professionals including the cartoonist Kipper Williams, who did the cover.
Parent Kate Cohen, who was involved in the project, invited Mr Williams. She said: “We wanted the children to understand the importance of what makes a good story, how to find ‘true’ facts and understand their sources at this time of ‘fake news’.”
The newspaper also includes artworks from each Fleet year group. Pictured above are the young journalists.
