A MURDER investigation has been launched after a fatal fire at Highgate Mental Health Centre.
Emergency services were called to the medical facility in Dartmouth Park Hill shortly after 6.30am on Sunday.
A 46-year-old man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.05am.
His next of kin have been informed.
Two men, aged 21 and 30, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.
About 100 people were evacuated from the building by staff and nobody else was injured.
Part of a room on the ground floor was damaged by fire, said London Fire Brigade.
The Met Police said: “Enquiries are currently underway to establish the full circumstances and the cause of the fire.”
The centre is run by Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.
A spokeswoman for the trust said: “We can confirm that an individual at Highgate Mental Health Centre has sadly died following a fire early on Sunday.
“Next-of-kin have been informed and we are doing everything we can to support both them and our wider patients and staff.
“A police investigation is underway and there will be no further comment at this stage.”
