28 December, 2017 — By Emily Finch

DETECTIVES have launched a murder investigation after a body of a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was found near the sports area in the centre of the park on Wednesday.

Police believe she may have been attacked whilst in Finsbury Park on Christmas Eve. No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

A post-mortem examination is taking place at Haringey Mortuary today (Thursday) and her next of kin are currently being notified of her death. She has yet to be formally identified.

DCI Nicola Wall from the Homicide and Major Crime Command who is leading the investigation said:

“We believe that this woman was attacked whilst in the park and this may have occurred on Christmas Eve. Her body was discovered in an outbuilding next to a sports pitch.”

“We are trying to establish the motive for the attack and would like to hear from anyone who has seen anything suspicious in that part of Finsbury Park around the Christmas holiday period.”

A member of the public discovered the woman at 4.25pm yesterday (Wednesday) but she was pronounced dead at the scene by the London Ambulance Services.

A crime scene remains in place today and the area where the body was found is out of use.
