Masks have helped my tube travel in an unexpected way

Going underground: ‘Litter and odour-free journeys’

• WHEN I have had occasion to travel on the Underground, I expected to find a limited number of passengers but I was very surprised to find it so clean and free of litter.

The wearing of masks has stopped people eating and drinking while journeying.

This has meant that we no longer have the discarded cans, bottles and food wrappers that are usually to be found carelessly scattered throughout the carriages.

It has also banished the foul-smelling fast food that is so popular with the more inconsiderate commuters.

If the “no food” policy could be further enforced as we progress out of lockdown it would make for litter and odour-free journeys.
