A MAN has been hit by a bus in Tottenham Court Road.

Police were called at 11.35am to the road to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a bus.

The Met said an injured man was taken to hospital and they await an update on his condition.

It is the second incident in a week on the road, prompting further safety concerns over the new two-way system. The changes, part of Camden Council’s West End Project, were introduced in April.

Jack Srimuang, who lives in Grafton Way and manages the food stall Nuwa in Tottenham Court Road, said he witnessed the crash.

Mr Srimuang added: “There are no signs telling people to look both ways – there used to be but they took them down.”

No arrests have been made.

A Camden Council spokesperson said: “We are saddened to hear about this incident.

“The temporary ‘look both ways’ signage was removed following an eight week period. This was one part of a wide range of methods used to communicate the changes to the road layout. ‘Look both ways’ remains clearly marked on the road at all the pedestrian crossings.

“We will be working with both the MET Police and Transport for London to understand the circumstances which led to the accident.”

Tom Cunnington, Head of Bus Business Development at TfL, said: “We’re extremely concerned for the man who has been injured after a collision with a bus on Tottenham Court Road. We will work closely with the bus company Arriva, the police and Camden Council to understand its cause.

“We’re committed to a Vision Zero approach to eliminate deaths and serious injuries from London roads, which is why we have invested in streets and public spaces around the West End to help reduce danger and worked closely with Camden Council on their decision to remove cars, lorries and taxis from the area.”
