Man accused of Kentish Town murder appears in court

Dwayne Stewart-Akers, 37, is charged with murdering Jack Ampadu

A MAN accused of killing a 37-year-old man in Kentish Town last week has appeared at the Old Bailey today (Monday).

Dwayne Stewart-Akers, 37, from Highgate Road, is charged with the murder of Jack Ampadu.

Mr Ampadu was found with multiple stab wounds on the third floor landing of Denyer House, just after 7.30pm on February 15.

Despite efforts by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) to save him, he died at the scene.

Detectives launched a murder investigation and on the same night arrested Mr Stewart-Akers. Another man has since been released.

Mr Stewart-Akers appeared in person inside the court, speaking only to confirm his name and date of birth.

Family members of Mr Stewart-Akers were present in the public gallery, while members of Mr Ampadu’s family watched the proceedings via video link.

Mr Stewart-Akers has not yet entered a plea to the charges against him.

Judge Mark Dennis QC said the case was in its “very early stages”.

The defendant was denied bail and remains in custody.
