Knife arches used during Christmas crackdown on crime

KNIFE arches will be set up in the West End as part of a Christmas crime crackdown.
The Met’s Operation Blizzard aims to stop criminals during the festive shopping weeks with more patrol and plain-clothed officers on the beat until January 7.
Police are reminding the public to “be aware” of their surroundings and to lock phones with codes and install tracker apps.
They are also suggesting keeping Oyster and travel cards separately to avoid fumbling about in the street.
Chief Superintendent Peter Ayling, Westminster’s Borough Commander, said: “Shopping and celebrating make up a big part of the festive fun therefore Operation Blizzard will reassure the public through our increased presence while making the West End a hostile place for criminals.”
