SANTI Cazorla has “made a decision” about his future after being offered the chance to return to Arsenal as a coach – but says now is not the time to announce his next move.
The midfielder joined the Gunners in 2012, and quickly became a fans’ favourite – winning two FA Cups and two Community Shields during a six-year stay.
His final years in north London were, however, hampered by injuries, and in 2018 he returned to play for Villarreal where his career has enjoyed a resurgence.
Cazorla’s current contract expires in the summer and, should he decide to hang up his boots, he has reportedly been offered the chance to join old teammate and close friend Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff at the Emirates.
Asked about his future, Cazorla, 35, said: “I have already made my decision, but right now is not the time to say anything.
“I have an idea of what I want, but in due course I will reveal what I’ve decided. Now is not the time because we have to be focused on competing.
“The season suspension has helped me think, listen to my body, but I do not want to pre-empt you or to speculate too much.”
Quizzed on whether he could continue playing at a new club, Cazorla added: “I don’t know, I have an idea but when the time comes I will communicate it and give the explanations. Now we have to be focused.
“I want to remain linked to football. I could be a coach, but I see myself more in a sporting director role. We shall see what happens.”
