THE RSPCA helped rescue a cat “stuck” on a first-floor ledge – but neighbours are still baffled as to how it got there.

Mandeep Jagpal said he woke to loud meowing in Dennington Park Road, West Hampstead, on Monday morning. A mystery cat – which is not believed to belong to anyone in the building – was stranded on an inaccessible ledge.

Mr Jagpal said: “Around 11pm the night before, my wife heard a dog bark outside our flat, followed by the meowing of a cat. As our basement flat bedroom faces the street we assumed it was just animals outside and didn’t think anything of it.”

He added: “We assume the cat was running away from the dog and jumped onto the ledge in fear.”

Mr Jagpal said he and his neighbours had tried to get the cat down but it was “too scared” so they called the fire brigade, who told them to call the RSPCA.

“The RSPCA came an hour later with a long ladder and rescued the cat,” he said. “It wandered away very slowly.”
