Now in its fifth year, The Highgate International Chamber Music Festival has turned into something quite spectacular, world-class musicians playing truly lovely music in two lovely churches, St Michael’s and St Anne’s.

The theme of this year’s festival is “Rustic Roots”.

“When we started to think about the chamber music we most wanted to play in the festival, we soon realised there was one thing that linked them all, namely folk music,” says Ashok Klouda, one of the festival’s artistic directors. “In fact, it became apparent quite quickly that of course the influence of folk culture and folk music permeates through all music. “It just depends on how hard you look and, needless to say, we were spoilt for choice in what to play in Rustic Roots.”

Musicians playing in the festival include its artistic director, violinist Natalie Klouda, cellist Ashok Klouda and Irina Botan; pianist Katya Apekisheva; clarinettist Julian Bliss; violinist Benjamin Gilmore; and violinist Rowena Calvert.
