Help us make sure nobody is forgotten this Christmas

Maybe you could organise a cake sale, a sponsored activity – sit in a bath of beans, shave off that beard or stage a football match or quiz night?

30 October, 2017

IT may feel like the leaves are only just falling off the trees – but have you seen the supermarkets? Their aisles are turning tinselly already, because they know Christmas will hurtle upon us all before we know it.

Yes, the lanterns of Halloween have yet to be lit, and the rockets of fireworks night have still to explode, but it is never too early to start thinking about how we can all help others once the festive season arrives. While it is a time to cherish and anticipate, for some of us it brings a sense of dread. Think of the elderly residents living by themselves at Christmas.

Why should they not be able to enjoy the spirit of the season? We’ve reported on some tragic cases in recent weeks of pensioners apparently left all alone. Tragedies like these give added urgency to our Christmas Hamper Appeal. Every year we turn your donations into hampers and take the gifts to the doors of elderly people as a measure of a caring community. We try to do the same for those who have gone through hardship over the year, and families struggling to get by.

We are reminding readers of our appeal now – at the end of October – because there is time for you to organise fundraising events to help us collect as much money as possible for this important cause. Every penny counts, every donation can mean another hamper is delivered.

Maybe you could organise a cake sale, a sponsored activity – sit in a bath of beans, shave off that beard or stage a football match or quiz night? We will make sure that everybody who donates and everybody who comes up with ideas for fundraising features in the New Journal. Let us know what you have got planned by contacting editorial@camden newjournal.com Thank you, once again, for all of your support.

Thank you for your support.

* You can donate online or with cheques to Camden Journal Hamper Fund, Camden New Journal, 40 Camden Road, London, NW1 9DR
