THE Gunners paid the price for “fundamental errors” on Sunday as they saw their 100 per cent start to the season in the Women’s Super League ended by Chelsea.
The Blues, managed by former Parliament Hill School pupil Emma Hayes, came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Kingsmeadow.
Arsenal raced into an early lead when Vivianne Miedema’s pass picked out Danielle van de Donk to slot home in the first 10 minutes.
Chelsea levelled after the break through Beth England, before claiming all three points when Maria Thorisdottir slammed home the winner from the edge of the box with just five minutes left on the clock.
Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro said: “We’re disappointed that we made some fundamental errors in crucial parts of the park and that’s very unlike us.”
Hayes, who saw her side go second, said: “We’re all sick to death of hearing about our slow start to last season. That’s been put to bed now. We were terrific today.”
The result leaves Arsenal third in the table, three points behind leaders Man City, who they host in their next league match at Meadow Park on October 27.
