Euro rules must be the same for everybody

• DID Stephen Southam (The EU is not Europe it’s a secretariat, August 2) make any comment on the “red lines” of Theresa May?
As long as we are on the inside, we are protected by the European Union’s principles of equality and non-discrimination.
It applies to businesses as well as people. The EU offers many models, from Icelandic to eurozone and even Turkish.
But there are basics that have been endorsed by British governments since Harold Macmillan first applied to join in 1961.
I’m talking about the four freedoms of the single market, free movement of people, goods, services and capital (money).
The four freedoms are linked. That is a basic principle. The EU should not and cannot compromise on that.
As Euro Commission president-elect Ursula von der Leyen has said, quite reasonably: “Rules must be the same for everyone”.
