Double delight for Fairfield

06 July, 2017 — By Steve Barnett

Fairfield Play Centre ran away with a fistful of trophies

YOUNGSTERS from Fairfield Play Centre were smiles ahead of the rest after beating the odds to win a delightful double in one of the most successful five-a-side football leagues in Camden and Islington.

For the last 10 years only players from Talacre Colts have walked away from the Talacre Play Centre Primary Schools League with winners’ medals draped around their necks.

Satisfied smiles from the The Winch team

On Thursday, however, that decade-long run was brought to an end when Fairfield got their hands on the elusive shield.

In fact, the team from Mary Terrace in Camden Town got their hands on a few trophies as they also won the League Cup after beating Rhyl Primary School 1-0 in the final.

The talented young side was also presented with a special Fair Play Award for their exceptional conduct “both on and off the pitch”.

Lloyd Heath, who set-up the competition more than 30 years ago and runs it alongside Paulette King, said it had been “a fantastic and action-packed season” for the friendliest five-a-side league in town.

“I’m really pleased that a new team has their name on the trophies, Fairfield really deserve it,” he said.

“On and off the pitch, they were always ready to shake hands with opposing players, and always displayed exceptional behaviour – which is why we also presented them with the Fair Play Award.

“It’s been a fantastic season. Our main goal as organisers is to help young players who love their football to develop, and again, I feel we’ve done that.

“We’re all about fun, fair play and development, and giving boys and girls the chance to enjoy football together in a safe and friendly environment.

“We want everyone to be able to enjoy the beautiful game.”

The Talacre Play Centre Primary Schools League is due to return in October.
