CLERKENWELL Road is closed this morning as emergency services tackle a shop fire.

London Fire Brigade say 12 fire engines and about 80 firefighters were called to the ground floor shop with flats above on Back Hill at 6.11am.

Station Manager Paul Eastland is at the scene, he said: “There is a lot of visible smoke coming from the fire so residents and local businesses are advised to keep their windows shut.

“Local road closures are in place from Rosebery Avenue to Farringdon Road so drivers are being advised to avoid the area.”

LFB, which received 12 calls about the fire, say there has been no reports of any injuries and the cause of the blaze is not yet known.

Pictures from the scene show thick smoke in the air earlier this morning.

The road is closed between Farringdon Road and Rosebery Avenue at the junction with Grays Inn Road.

Fire crews from Soho, Shoreditch, Islington, Dowgate, Whitechapel, Lambeth, Euston and Paddington are at the scene.
