Camden Town tube station made ‘exit only’ during evening rush hour

Escalator work limits access to Northern Line trains

Work began on an escalator upgrade today (Tuesday)

USERS of Camden Town Underground Station need to find a different route home with the station becoming an  ‘exit-only’ stop during the evening rush hour for the next six weeks.

Passengers will only be able to leave the tube network or change trains between 4pm and 7pm until mid-March while transport chiefs work on an escalator upgrade. The same limits will be applied at weekends between 1pm and 5.30pm, and during the night tube service.

When the station is open to passengers wanting to start their journeys, people will only be able to reach the platforms via the 96-step spiral staircase.

Transport for London said the work was “vital”.

“The escalators will be refurbished one at a time to boost their safety and reliability, which is crucial to ensure the station can manage increasing customer demand as the area continues to develop and London’s population continues to grow,” TfL said.

“Work on the first escalator is scheduled to finish in early March. The second escalator will be refurbished later in the year.
