THEY are not just about growing plants – Camden Garden Centre staff are also about nurturing people, too.

And now the charitable trust that provides horticultural training has had the excellence of its work recognised at an awards ceremony. The charity, based in Barker Drive, Camden Town, won a prize for the UK’s Best Garden Centre Plant Area at the Garden Retail Awards presentation last week at Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden.

It is no stranger to silverware, having won national awards for its work since it opened in 1983. It has seen more than 300 disadvantaged people gain vocational qualifications and get back into work.

Managing director Peter Hulatt said: “It is an honour to receive this prestigious award, which recognises the excellence of our garden centre business and the impact our training scheme has on getting people back into work.”
