A POPULAR punk metal music bar in Camden Town says it needs to raise £100,000 in eight weeks if it is to survive the coronavirus crisis.

The Black Heart in Greenland Place got off to a great start to its fund-raiser as fans answered the call with donations worth more than £40,000 in less than a week– almost halfway to the rescue target.

“We were closed for months only to reopen at less than half our capacity and with hardcore restrictions. We still managed to successfully put on 11 socially distanced gigs and eight live streams, but it was not enough to keep us going,” the appeal said.

“We are and always have been an independently owned venue and we are proud to say we’ve retained all of our staff because we’re a family.”
