ARSENAL will continue to sharpen their skills for the new Women’s Super League season by tackling Italian giants Juventus at Meadow Park this Sunday.
Joe Montemurro’s side will then travel to the south of France to face Montpellier Féminines and PSG Féminines in the Toulouse International Ladies Cup.
The fixtures will present the Gunners with the perfect test as they step up their preparations for the 2018-19 campaign, which kicks off on the weekend of August 18 and 19 with the opening round of group fixtures in the Continental Tyres Cup.
The FA Women’s Super League then returns to action in the second weekend of September.
Arsenal defender Leah Williamson says she is relishing the chance to play against Juventus, and give fans a glimpse of the exciting times ahead.
“We maybe lack that European experience and exposure because we’re not in the Champions League,” the England international told Arsenal Player. “It’s a different way to test ourselves and obviously it will be fitness focused because it’s pre-season, but we really want to start showcasing the football that we’re going to be playing this year.”
She added: “Joe brought that in at the back end of last season and we had a really good run, so I think the fans have something to be excited about.
“There’s a real football focus in training, so we want to showcase what we’re all about, but ultimately it’s just the next step on the ladder of getting ready for the new season.”
Arsenal kick off their match against Juventus Women at Boreham Wood FC on Sunday at 2pm. Tickets cost £6, or £3 for Over-65s, Under-16s and disabled supporters. Visit www.arsenal.com for further details.
