Anthony Yigit captures the European crown

16 February, 2017 — By Steve Barnett

ANTHONY Yigit captured the European Super Lightweight Championship on Saturday after scoring a unanimous points victory over Lenny Daws at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Surrey.

The 25-year-old from Stockholm, who has been training at St Pancras Amateur Boxing Club in Kentish Town for the past year, produced a boxing master class to dominate Daws in his home town arena (pictured below), with the judges marking the contest 118-110, 118-110 and 116-112 in the favour of the Swedish fighter.

“It feels absolutely amazing to be the European champion,” Yigit said. “It still feels a little bit surreal and difficult to put into words, but I’m very happy!”

Saints’ coach CJ Hussein, who is now busy preparing welterweight Kian “The Tec” Thomas for his fight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green this Saturday, said he couldn’t have asked for more from his young fighter.

“I thought it was a flawless performance,” he said. “Anthony completely controlled the fight from start to finish. Personally I didn’t give Lenny Daws a single round.”

To see fellow Saint Kian “The Tec” Thomas in action this Saturday call 07860 247 270 or pop into St Pancras Boxing Club for tickets.
