Lights make it a magical Camden Passage
CHRISTMAS lights in Angel will be switched on tomorrow (Saturday) during a day of festive celebrations.
The event starts at Angel Central, where panto stars and Santa will entertain youngsters from 12.30pm.
Islington Fire Station, in Upper Street, will open its doors from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, with children allowed on board a fire engine and police car.
Puppeteers from Little Angel Theatre will teach children how to make their own paper angel for the top of the Christmas tree.
Two giant illuminated stilt-walkers will lead a procession from the fire station to Angel Central in time for the lights switch-on at 5pm.
Other areas of Angel won’t miss out the fun – there will be music and free food in Chapel Market from 1.30pm, with the Town Hall’s Market Trader of the Year being announced at 3pm.
Musicians will entertain shoppers in Camden Passage from 3.30pm, with free roasted chestnuts on offer.
The fun is organised by Angel Central and angel.london, the business improvement district for the area. Chief executive Christine Lovett said: “Angel Day and the Christmas lights switch-on mark the start of the festive season in the Angel. This year, we have invested an additional £45,000 in Christmas lights across the Angel, including Rosebery Avenue, Upper Street, Liverpool Road and Camden Passage. We recognise the importance of this trading period to many businesses and we’re doing all we can to support them and the high street.”
